Frosty Orange Smoothie
This take on the classic Julius is a playful way to get a serious amount of sprouts into your system in one shot. And unlike the original, it will give you a protein boost rather than put you into a sugar shock!
Serves 2 to 3
Ingredients:
3 large oranges, peeled and segmented
½ cup unsweetened almond milk
4 dried Medjool dates, pitted and chopped
1 teaspoon pure vanilla powder or extract
1/8 teaspoon ground turmeric
4 cups (about 8 ounces) mature mung bean sprouts
½ cup (about ½ ounce) mild vegetable sprout, such as clover or alfalfa
1 small carrot, chopped
Large handful of ice cubes
Directions:
In a high-speed blender, combine all the ingredients in the order listed and blend, starting on low speed and working your way up to high, until smooth, about 2 minutes. Add a little water or more almond milk if the drink gets too thick. Pour into glasses and enjoy immediately. Store leftovers in a tightly sealed jar for up to 1 day. Shake well before serving.
