It’s possible to walk away from the donuts…or the cookies
It’s Friday morning. You’re getting ready to go to work, putting on your makeup, doing your hair, gathering all your stuff. You feel great!
You crushed every workout this week and even upped your weights.
You remembered to take your supplements.
You followed your meal plan every day except for that one on-the-fly drive-thru visit at McDonald’s on your way home from the kiddo’s late game.
You saw a new decade on the scale and had to put on a belt for the first time in years.
Yep, it’s been a GREAT week!
As you drive to work, you’re rockin’ out to the latest Ed Sheeran song. You feel like nothing can knock you down. You’re totally prepared for your meetings and are actually excited to present.
You walk through the front door and head to your office.
On your way, the smell of something familiar fills the air. You would know that smell anywhere. That smell has comforted you in some of your darkest hours. It’s rewarded you after that big promotion and welcomed you to the office every day, for the last 10 years. It’s even been there for you while grocery shopping with the kiddos who pulled everything off the lower shelves and ate their fair share of free grapes.
Donuts.
Damn.
If there was a kryptonite to your superpowers as a mom/wife/business exec it is the infamous donut.
So sweet, so delicious, so…..Mmmmm…..
What’s one donut? It’s been weeks since you’ve given into your “cheat food”. You deserve it today. You’ve worked so hard this month! And no one would even know. You could sneak into the breakroom, grab that jelly-filled delight and sneak out. Everyone is none the wiser.
“Let’s just go see what kind of donuts they have. They probably don't have one I like anyways.”
Damn.
There it sits, staring back at you. Nope. You walk away. Time for your meeting.
Why are you shaking? Why are you suddenly nervous? Why can you only think of that donut? Why is your mouth watering?
On your way from the meeting, you swing by the breakroom again, just to check out the situation. Still there.
An hour goes by. Just one more check. Still there.
Another hour goes by. One more quick check. Maybe you need a snack. Hummus and veggies somehow don’t hit the spot.
Time to check on that donut again. Still there.
Another hour goes by….this is quickly becoming the longest day of your life!!! Why won’t the clock move!!
After lunch, you head out for a walk. Maybe some fresh air will snap you out of it. Why does the air outside smell like donuts? Did someone build a donut factory?
You see the break room. Since you’ve held out soooooo long, it’s time for a reward.
You walk in, carefully select your fav like you’re picking out a precious diamond, and run back to your office. You sit down and swivel in your chair so no one can see you scarf down the evidence.
Damn.
They must have changed the recipe. What once tasted like little bites of heaven, now tastes like something else. Hmmmm…..that’s not right.
Better try another one. Obviously, the one you chose was sitting out too long. That one tasted off too. And the next one. And….
6 donuts in, you’re alone in the bathroom holding back tears. What has happened? Why do you feel so awful?
The guilt sets in, the stomach cramps start, and here comes the regret. You just blew your entire week! Well, might as well swing by the ice cream shop on your way home. You’re already off the rails, might as well go big!
You’ll try again next week. But “next week” turns into the next week which turns into the next month which turns into “when the kids are older”. It’s a vicious cycle.
What if you could walk away from the donuts? What if you could decide to eat one and then go about your day? What if you could walk by the breakroom 17 times a day and feel amazing?
I’m here to tell you, it’s possible to walk away from the donuts or whatever version of a “donut” that strings you along!
It is possible!
When most people think about making health changes and commit to making healthy food choices, they assume that means they can never eat a donut, cookies, chips, cake, [insert your fav indulgence here] ever again.
It’s possible to make those foods a part of your new healthy lifestyle if you want to.
Here’s the thing, once you learn how to make healthy food choices, you learn to listen to your body and your body learns to listen to you. Suddenly, your super-intense cravings are no longer controlling your every step. Instead, you get to choose whether or not you eat something. When your cravings are in control, they call the shots.
Sugar addiction is real and so is the reliance on certain foods for comfort, stress release, company, ect. It’s not your fault you can’t walk away from it. You simply don’t have the tools to do so….yet.
I can help you.
I can help you walk away from the donuts.
I can help you walk away from whatever you use to mask feeling those uncomfortable feelings.
It all starts in the gut. I help people learn to balance what’s going on in their bodies so they can be in control, not their cravings.
My clients are always so excited to tell me how they walked away from the foods that once controlled their lives.
The cookies at the school event.
The alcohol at the party.
The drive-thru.
And of course, the donuts at work.
We will work together to change your gut microbiome - the gut bugs who are really calling the shots! The bad guys down there crave sugary, salty, and super-processed foods. But the good guys don’t need that stuff!
The beauty is when you are not eating those foods regularly, your body learns to handle them on occasion because it’s not so overwhelmed. You have a liver and kidneys for a reason! They can do their jobs!
You will also learn how to reframe your thoughts around food and the role food plays in your life. Mindset is king. Your thoughts control your feelings and your feelings often control your actions. Pair negative thoughts with the sugar-craving gut bugs and you’ve got yourself a dependency on sugar!
Enough is enough! The time is now! I can help you turn this plane around and learn to nourish your body so you can be the very best version of yourself. Let go of the tight grip those cravings have on your life!
